Riitta Päiväläinen is known for her temporary site-specific installations in nature, consisting of second-hand clothing and flea market fabrics. She has worked as artist photographer since 1997.  Keywords of her work are: landscape, place, nature, second-hand clothing, ribbon and fabric installations, memory, remembrance, micro history, childhood, unconscious, imaginary meetings, alternative and potential stories.

"During the working process, I am looking for a certain place that after being found, works as a starting point for my photography – a specific feeling, memory, shape, structure, colour or element of the surrounding nature functions as an inspiration.

I am interested in the silent places that are abandoned, secluded and uninhabited. The significance of them is in the possibility of seeing them as source of imagination, creation, relaxation;  seeing the world from a different perspective. "

Born in Maaninka in 1969. Lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. Since her graduation from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki in 2002, Riitta Päiväläinen has had numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world. Her work today can be found in several important public and private collections, like Kiasma (The Museum of Contemporary Art) in Helsinki and State Art Council in Sweden.
